“Cast of Tellabration 2019”

Welcome

image The Tamiami Tale Tellers (TTT), a longtime storytelling guild in Southwest Florida, is a member of the Florida Storytelling Association. We are a small group of storytellers who enjoy performing and sharing all kinds of stories! We encourage others to discover the joys of storytelling!

Meetings

image Beginning April 20, 2023, the Tamiami Tale Tellers will meet in-person on the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 PM at All Faiths Unitarian church, 2756 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33901. If you would like to receive reminders of meetings and events, please send an email to Marilyn@tttellers.org
The meeting starts with brief self-introductions and announcements. Then anyone who wants to tell a story calls out "Kric" and the rest respond "Krac," a Haitian storytelling tradition. In this method, we take turns telling stories - all kinds of stories. Folktales, personal stories, historical stories, original stories, even poetry. Some tellers are practicing a story for performance; others may read a newly written story; others may just want to share a recent experience. Stories should be about 10 minutes. If time permits, a longer story is OK or a teller may share more than one story.

Events

Tellabration, an event typically held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, features local storytellers sharing their best stories. Unfortunately, Tellabration was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 for Covid and in 2022 because the venue was lost due to Hurricane Ian. Good news! Tellabration 2023 is scheduled for Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 PM at Peace Community Church (same building as the Masonic Lodge), 17671 Pine Ridge Road, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931.

“Bible Bad Girls : Heresy or Herstory?”, an original storytelling program envisioned by Pamela Minton, was presented to large, appreciative audiences at Unity Church (Fort Myers), Peace Community Church (Fort Myers Beach), All Faiths Unitarian Congregation (Fort Myers) and Saint John the Apostle (Fort Myers) in early 2023. The storytellers dramatized Biblical women who defend their tarnished reputations with compelling reasons for their choices. Characters such as Eve, Bathsheba, Salome and others present new perspectives on gray areas of good and evil. Contact Marilyn@tttellers.org for information about having the Bible Bad Girls perform at your church or club.
